The 20th Annual National Educators' Workshop will be held on October 16 - 19, 2005, in Gaithersburg, Maryland. N.E.W. Update 2005 will be hosted by NIST, University of Maryland, and Norfolk State University.

Workshops will be sponsored by the University of Maryland, NIST, Norfolk State University, National Aeronautics and Space Administration, Langley Research Center, Materials Science and Engineering Laboratories at National Institute of Standards and Technology, ASM International Foundation, National Institue of Aerospace, BIMat, U. S. Air Force Research Laboratory, and Boeing Commercial Airplane Company.

Faculty will present experiments, demonstrations, and technical papers. Leaders in the fields of aviation, materials, and laser research will provide technical updates.

PLEASE NOTE: LIMITED ENROLLMENT FOR MINI WORKSHOP SESSIONS MAKES EARLY REGISTRATION IMPORTANT.

Hotel.  The Comfort Inn Shady Grove Hotel, in Maryland, is offering a block of rooms for $89.00 plus 12% tax per night.  There are a limited number of hotel rooms available.  RESERVATIONS MUST BE MADE EARLY.  Hotel rates will be available October 13, 2005, through October 20, 2005.  After the cut off date of  October 2,  2005, discount rates will be based on availability of rooms.  To make reservations, call 301-330-1950 prior to October 2, 2005, and request the rate for the “National Educators’ Workshop.”   Their website is  www.comfortinn.com/hotel/md413.  A full breakfast is included in the price of the hotel.  Rental cars are available through the hotel. 

Meetings:  All technical sessions will be held at the National Institute of Standards and Technology  except for the Sunday session at the University of Maryland.

Additional Activities: POST WORKSHOP SPECIAL TOUR

Arrangements have been made for a tour of the Smithsonian for Materials Research and Education in on Wednesday afternoon after the workshop concludes. This world-class laboratory is part of the Smithsonian’s Center and is heavily involved in conservation research, conservation treatment development, archaeological conservation, historic materials research and characterization, international preservation training, and providing information resources. Their Web site is www.si.edu/scmre. Attendance will be on a first come basis and limited to 25. Please indicate on page 9 if you wish to attend this special tour. in a BIMat and TiiMS sponsored poster competition. A panel of judges will evaluate the posters and present a cash prize to the top three posters. More information can be found here.
