N.E.W. Mission

The National Educator's Workshop builds upon 19 years of annual workshops aimed at improving science, engineering, and technology. Each year the workshop has enhanced the quantity of useful information provided to the participants while maintaining quality and relevancy.

Each year, the National Educator's Workshop will strive to provide current information to participants that focuses on materials science, engineering, and technology, through the following activities:

  • Engaging in small group workshops at the host institution facilities and laboratories
  • Obtaining useful resources and updated information
  • Observing, evaluating, and obtaining a notebook of classroom demonstrations and laboratory experiments
  • Interacting with fellow educators and industrial specialists.

The N.E.W. series has provided over 7000 participants with the latest developments in material science and technology while offering strategies for improving teaching techniques. These N.E.W. Update participants have seen over 600 experiments and demonstrations presented live or on videotape and have been provided with supplemental notes for replicating the experiments. Peer review and publication of the experiments and demonstrations have provided the materials education community with current, valuable aids for teaching and research. For a copy of past experiments on CD-Rom, please go here.

Join colleagues to gain an update in materials science and engineering. You will gain tips on improved methods for teaching and research. Experts will guide you into the future of technology and science. At the same time, you will become a part of our expanding network of materials educators, industry specialists, and technical societies.
